Year 4
Our class reading book for this half term is 'Arthur and the Golden Rope' by Joe Todd Stanton
Homework Expectations
We try to keep this to a minimum at Dale Hall, believing time spent with family and joining in with other activities is equally important.
However, it is essential that children do engage with what is set, especially given the extended period of learning these pupils missed this year.
- TTRockstars - Daily for just 5 minutes (little and often is the key to mastery).
- Reading - Daily for at least ten minutes, when possible with an adult.
- Spelling - Spelling Shed activities. We set 5 short spelling games each week to support the the words to be learnt for the following Monday.
Thank you for your support.
Our classrooms
In Year 4 we make our classrooms immersive in line with our Power of Reading book. At the beginning of each half term, the children design and decorate their classrooms and always enjoy the process. We also have a 'working wall' and interactive displays.

Having spent most of my career teaching older children, it has been a breath of fresh air coming into Year 4. The sheer level of enthusiasm and creativity is contagious. We are lucky to have a magnificent array of books in Year 4: Tutankharmun's story, The Ice Bear and Wild to name a few. They all take us on wonderful journeys into different cultures and are gateways into exciting new worlds. Being able to combine English, Art, DT, Geography and History in completely immersive environments means that Year 4 is a truly inspirational year. It is also a pleasure seeing our children developing and refining their independent learning skills to be the very best learners that they can be.

I have been teaching now for over 20 years. On this journey I believe Year 4 to be one of my favourite years to teach in. At ths age, the children really develop their interests, become more independent and have the confidence to explore new topics in greater detail. Having looked at the year ahead I am really excited by the topics we will be covering and it should be a lot of fun.
At home I love reading, climbing, rugby and growing things in my garden. I try to bring these enjoyments into teaching whenever I can.
In Year 4, our Teaching Assistants are Mrs. Hearsum, Mrs. Trett and Mrs Gowers
